Everyday (Buddy Holly)
No AI. Human Only. Me.
I’m just done with trying but only failing to explain my intentional use of AI in the creative process. Here’s to those who’ve asked me if I am a real musician.
For the next ??? days I will post carbon-based recordings of my stuff, from the home studio, “professional” studios, and live shows. All songs are written by me and almost always played, all parts, and well as sung, all parts, by yours truly.
I’ll start with tracks from my last “organic” album, “Covers,” recorded in 2022 after pretty much giving up music once I got married in 2003, in order to focus on being a “husband.” The hiatus was almost twenty years.
In 2021 I was advised to follow my bliss again, so I unpacked all of my gear, instruments, everything that had sat in storage for two decades, built a home studio, and decided to return slow. I did not want to be in a band, yet. I did not even yet want to compose. I always enjoyed deconstructing and reconstructing others’ music, putting my “signature” on it, so that’s what I did.
I recorded “Covers” and as usual, dragged my son into it, so the first few songs will include him playing various instruments, which I hope to remember and credit him accordingly, but again, to those who’ve asked if I am legit, here comes the evidence that I sure as hell am.
I might not be the best, but just like I crack myself up, if it’s only me laughing, I love what I play and love to listen to it. So, if you listen, I hope you like what you hear. And now for the show…
I’ll begin with a fun one. Short and sweet. Buddy Holly at his best, in 1957, until I got my grubby hands on it. Like my writing, I need to remember to STFU and let the music speak for itself, so without further ado, here begins the “Covers” album with my take on Buddy Holly’s “Everyday.”
