Jamie and I met when I was going to Southern and he was at Eastern. After graduation, a friend’s brother, Dan, Jamie and I got together to jam and SP⦿T was born.
Well, actually, our first working name was my brilliant idea, Throbbing Amish (if the Quakers quaked and the Shakers shook, I assumed the Amish throbbed). That band name didn’t stick, so we came up with a list of names, one of which was Shatner. That almost stuck but in the end, it was SP⦿T.
We were a Progressive Rock trio and the Rush influence was evident. Fair to say not in demand at the time. We played a few gigs then Dan quit for other commitments. Jamie and I, lazy as usual, didn’t bother to find another drummer. And that was that.
This was my favorite band, short-lived or not. These are my songs and I am on lead vocals and bass, our three demos recorded first live via the board direct to ADAT, with the vocals and solos added later in a Chicago studio.
I once had a live tape from the University of Iowa gig pictured here, but it got recorded over in Spanish. Too many angry ex-girlfriends.
