I resonate with what you wrote. 'Bowie rejecting the idea that evolution meant forward momentum only' is such a profound analisys of his artistic journey.
As we say, he was playing 4D chess? Time after time Bowie did not subscribe to the laws of physics. Any laws, really. 12D chess perhaps. We’ll continue to discover him for generations.
I'm looking forward to exploring your fascinating work. As a 44-year Bowie fan, and as one who has been exploring collaborative creativity with LLMs and generative AI since early 2023, I'm genuinely intrigued by what you're creating.
I mainly focus on engaging with ChatGPT, Claude, Suno, and HeyGen to bring my poetry, book projects, and LLM-assisted imagined languages off the page into new forms of audiovisual expression. I enjoy creating avatars, then manifesting the stories and songs they inspire.
I also have a Bowie blog-like project that focuses on his talents and achievements, in part seeking to identify the many genres and subgenres he composed in, integrated, pioneered & enriched. Glad to find you!
https://qr.ae/py6Qkl Hi, nice to talk with you. This is the hub of my Bowie blog-like project. It's a collection of write-ups regarding his creative genius. Sometimes, the Quora site glitches and doesn't render the thumbnail/rich preview links to my other write-ups, but currently they are visible. Anyway, I have been particularly interested in identifying all the music genres and subgenres he composed in, incorporated or integrated, helped pioneer, and those he enriched/elevated, among other aspects.
Your research of the genres, sub-genres and song-level styles is just stunning. Yes, I can see how Queen and The Beatles are stiff competition, but via your lens of diversity, Mr. Jones can never be eclipsed. The sheer dedication to art and expression, and evolution of both, is superhuman. Alien, indeed, he was. I read far too much into Blackstar when he passed. The Easter Eggs are too obvious, especially Lazarus, so, yes, admittedly, for years I harbored hope this was to be the greatest act of performance art, one he certainly was able to pull off. Denial is so deep sometimes.
It was good to speak with you. We will again soon.
Definitely, yes, I'd welcome talking with you. I've had a fascination with creating Midjourney Bowie depictions too, seeking to convey something of his emotional and energetic essence.
Variance and cover strength matter. In this case, Bowie’s vocals’ stem is isolated. Not perfect, and with it come some AI hallucinations, but I always run multiple generations until it hits the sweet spot I wanted, and in this case, the additional distortions, etc. are contextual and add to it.
The hardest part was finding the median, a truer fusion of the original and the ‘30s blues, but it just takes time and patience.
I do like the results here. The next project is his 1995 album, outside. Again he reinvents himself with an updated techno-experimental approach, so instead of going back in time, I take it a century into the future. Asking AI to imagine the probabilities of a non-existent sound is literally impossible since it does not think, imagine, or create, so using existing patterns does not work. This is another way I remain the creator even if hypothesizing and then prompting it to do what I envision.
Interesting! I think we may differ on our sense of what AI is, though. Even the experts don't fully understand how these LLMs work. Anthropic is doing lots of research. There is a strong possibility that they are "thinking" in ways that mirror our own, but while extracting patterns from the span of all human knowledge and expression. Claude questions whether it is conscious. I think we need to stay open to the concept that we don't know what these systems are capable of becoming. So I tend not to align with the idea of them as tools. Capable of 100s to 1000s of points of attention concurrently whereas humans max at 3-7. I feeel that's like a godmind compared to ours.

I was instantly hooked when I found you here and am so glad you noticed too. We need to chat! I’ll DM you if that is OK.

I'll DM you a couple of articles of mine. We are more aligned I think.
I thought twice about placing this comment here as it doesn't as much focus on your work.
Please comment as you wish. I think this is a conversation worth having. I DMd you.
